WNBA
Betting on the WNBA is no different than betting on NBA. Although not as popular as the NBA, the WNBA is the best and most popular women's basketball league in the world and attracts many bettors.
Basketball is available for betting throughout the year: the college basketball season ends in April, and the NBA doesn't end until the end of June, followed by the WNBA, the other professional league in North America that is the only one that plays during the hot summer months.
Factors that affect the outcome of a WNBA game
The WNBA has only 12 teams, and each team plays only 34 regular-season games as opposed to the 82 played in the NBA. This means that there is less room for error. In the WNBA season, each game is that much more significant to a team's overall standing.
In addition, the roster size in the WNBA is limited to 12 players, compared to 15 players in the NBA. This affects team depth charts, and injuries to star players can be particularly devastating, as a shorter season allows less recovery time.
Recommended WNBA Betting
When it comes to basketball sports betting, the most popular way to bet is on the point spread. Betting on basketball games is handicapped by adding or deducting points from teams' scores. Favoured teams must give up points, while underdogs receive points.
It is more difficult for the favourite to win using the basketball handicap line, and therefore, you will get comparatively better odds than on a standard win. However, if you back the underdog, there is a greater chance that they will win, as your bet could win even if they lose the game.
Betting on the WNBA season
Long shot wagers are bets that predict the Eastern and Western Conference champions or the WNBA champion.
After hiring Cheryl Reeve as head coach in 2010 and making some shrewd moves in the transfer market, the Minnesota Lynx have absolutely dominated the WNBA over the past decade. As of 2018, the Lynx had reached the Finals six times in the last seven years, including four titles, and posted a regular-season record of 182-56 during that span.
Los Angeles Sparks are tied for the second-most titles among active WNBA franchises (three), including a 2016 title win over Minnesota, and came within one win of their second consecutive championship in 2017. LA has qualified for the playoffs in 16 of 20 years and has accumulated the most playoff appearances in the league.
The Seattle Storm is still one of the most dangerous teams in the league once the playoffs begin. The team was crowned WNBA champions in 2018 and 2020.
The Phoenix Mercury have won at least one series in each of its playoff appearances entering the 2018 season, winning 33 of 56 playoff games during that stretch. All of those playoff wins include three WNBA titles, the last of which came in 2014 as well as last season's finale.
